Gallery Shed was conceived following a client’s vision to live in a home that had no resemblance to the standard three bedroom, two bath construction that fill subdivisions across the Midwest. They requested simplicity, a budget conscious modern aesthetic, and lastly, a place to house their rotating art collection. Empowered by the client’s enthusiasm for something unequivocal of the norm, ‘Gallery Shed’ was born.
The home’s layout orients itself around a central spine composed of five skylights. The day-light that filters into the home’s vaulted interior creates a gallery-like setting for the homeowner’s art to take center stage. Conscious window placement accompanied with thoughtful site orientation completes the home’s relationship with the peaceful distant views of its surrounding rural farmland.
Re-thinking the norms of standard building practices and melding them with creativity is the ethos of the home’s conception.
