Gallery Shed

Residential Architecture Project

Commissioned by a couple with a large collection of pop art sculptures, the Gallery Shed House was an exercise in integrating everyday life with the ability to interact with the collection.  The project's overall form and exterior material took its inspiration from the metal-clad utilitarian machine sheds that dot the surrounding rural Wisconsin landscape. On the interior, a series of skylights down the axis of the main living area provide the ability to light the artwork without admitting direct sunlight onto the objects.  The bulk of the collection is displayed on a custom steel framework that forms a dividing wall between the more public spaces in the house and the corridor to the private bedrooms.
