Location: Shorewood, WI
Completed: Fall 2016
Size: 10,350 sq. ft.
The owner of Milwaukee’s popular Camp Bar and Sound By Design approached us in 2016 to help transform a former gardening supply store into their offices and an event center. The building, on Capitol Drive in Shorewood, was an ideal candidate for such a use. Extensively re-structured in the early 2000’s, the robust building had a largely open floor plate which made it conducive to the heavy loads seen during dancing. An intensive roof garden on top of the one story structure also made the ideal setting for pre dinner cocktails in the warmer months. The event space on the ground floor was cleared of many of the interior walls and a large oak dance floor was built below an existing skylight. Visible on axis from the entry, a long bar stretches across the back of the space. LED lighting washes the walls and bar with the ability to create a diverse set of environments based on the color and intensity of light. The existing clay book tile wall created a magnificent texture to catch the light and form a dynamic backdrop to weddings and banquets. A preexisting basement restaurant was removed and the offices for Sound By Design were constructed in the lower level. The offices borrowed the Northwood’s Wisconsin theme from Camp Bar to create a warm and cozy feeling. A full height glass wall enclosed the conference room at the center of the space.
