The Center for Veterans Issues partnered with Galbraith Carnahan Architects to renovate and expand Vets Place Central at 3330 W. Wells Street in Milwaukee. Long a critical resource for veterans experiencing homelessness, the facility was reimagined to better support dignity, stability, and recovery.
Completed in October 2025, the project includes a four-story addition and renovation of the existing building, transforming outdated dormitory-style housing into 81 single-room occupancy units with private bathrooms, including 68 transitional units and 13 permanent supportive housing units. Today, veterans live in the building and receive housing and services designed to support their transition toward stability and independence.
Alongside the housing improvements, the project expanded spaces for staff offices, counseling, and community gathering, strengthening the Center for Veterans Issues’ ability to provide case management, employment support, and other critical services. The result is a renewed campus that offers veterans privacy, community, and the support systems needed to move forward.
