Brewery

Originally constructed in 1926 along West Allis' historic Greenfield Avenue, the building's original storefront had become unrecognizable beneath decades of poor-quality updates. When two brothers purchased the property in 2020 with a dream of opening a neighborhood brewery, the project scope expanded well beyond facade restoration. GCA was tasked with stripping the building back to its historic bones and fitting it with an entirely new purpose.

The storefront was rebuilt to respect the rhythm of the existing facade, with two new recessed entries framed in cedar and anchored by a continuous base of slate tile and steel. Inside, the masonry uncovered during demolition became the defining interior finish. The taproom sits above an open brewhouse, separated by a custom drink rail that puts the brewing tanks on full display. Salvaged materials were reused wherever possible, tying the new program to the history of the building it inhabits.

The result is a space that feels inevitable, as if the building had always been waiting for this use.
