The Tannery Boutique Apartments have been honored with the 2025 Cream of the Cream City Award in the Back from the Brink category!
Located at the corner of 6th & Virginia in Milwaukee’s 5th Ward, this project brought two of Milwaukee’s oldest structures back to life. A pair of 1850s rowhouses and a 1900 corner tavern building, once on the verge of demolition.
Initially overlooked by developers, these buildings were rescued and reimagined by Braden Just in 2021. With a deep commitment to preservation, the project restored five beautiful apartment units in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, utilizing state and federal historic tax credits to ensure a thoughtful, lasting impact.
This recognition celebrates the power of historic preservation and visionary reuse. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing these treasures back from the brink!
